THE THRIFTY & SWIFT SUPER 17 MATRIX

INTRODUCTION

Here is a fun gaming experience that I have enjoyed by playing with the U.S.E.M.E rules. My goal by sharing these experiences with you is to inspire your own creativity and to take a different look about how you go about planning and playing with the miniatures in your collection.

Most games that I have played under this format have usually been completed in 20-30 mins or so. The scale of the engagement let’s you knock out a few games within the hour and the small miniature count let’s you have a diverse group of forces from your collection to play with. Later on is the Blog I will also include some of my own army lists and battle reports to give you some insight and help you on your own USE ME journey.

The Playing Area
Playing on a 24”x36” is just the right size of area for your miniatures to engage in. It has the added bonus of not needing a purpose built games table and can be set up anywhere at your convenienceAlso requires a small amount of terrain to give an adequate amount of diversity to the playing area.

The characters in Play
Take a look at what miniatures you own and see how they can fit into the following force structure.
  • Only 17 characters per side
  • No more then 4 characters per Elan rating
  • Every miniature must be a unique pose(where possible).
  • Maximum points limit 289 (17x17)

As you can see by using the above MATRIX it allows you to put together a list in a rather interesting fashionThe one thing I have found is that the number of characters per ELAN rating does make you think about where your priorities lay

Do you give that higher ELAN to your assault unit or to your heavy weapons unit?

How effective are these guys going to be by activating sooner or later In the turn?

This I’ve found does make for a fun experience in list building and can make the same force Play to a different style by simply swapping the ELAN around on some characters.

So go and have a rummage through your collection or jump on line and see what stirs your interest. A good place to start is Alternative Armies platoon packs click the links
